August 18, 2005 Diet

Diet

No junk food, soft drinks, processed foods, fried foods,, white sugar, etc.

Eat fibrous foods, foods that are low in saturated fats, and low in refined sugar.

Use honey to sweeten foods.

Eat foods that are high in vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc, and selenium. These nutrients protect the liver, heart, brain, and other organs from free radical damage.

Limit caffeine or stay away from it altogether. Limit red meats; eat more fish, at least twice a week. I need meat, try too only have it once a week. Substitute soy or a bean dish.

Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, particularly dark leafy greens, whole grains, and legumes (beans, peas, lentils, and peanuts).

Get plenty of calcium from yogurt, milk and un-processed cheese. Try and find yogurt that says “live active culture”.

Salads- stay away from iceberg lettuce, eat the darker lettuces. Also try simple herbal vinegars instead of those salad dressings. Try making my own.

Don’t get drinks that are high in corn syrup, try herbal teas and water. STAY AWAY from soft drinksL darn.

Monosodium Glutamate, try avoiding foods that have this in it, also known as MSG, it triggers the brain to eat more. You can’t avoid it altogether unless I eat all natural. Chinese food is one of the biggest offenders, ask them to leave it out.

SNACKS- Eat raw fruits and veggies, naturally flavored rice cakes, un-buttered popcorn etc.

Caffeine is a major problem; it raises blood pressure and causes anxiety. Decaf green tea is the best thing to replace soft drinks; it helps reduce blood pressure, increase oxidation of the cells.

Also when I start feminizing it is important to watch calcium intake, you can have not enough and too much.

Balking at giving up all of your favorite "junk" foods? Compromise! If you eat a basically healthy diet, the occasional pizza or doughnut or hamburger is okay. It is important to always keep these treats in moderation, however, to avoid canceling out the effects of eating well. Pick one day a week to have one meal of your favorite garbage food. Make sure you eat healthy before and after, though! You can do the same with a favorite sweet treat. Pick one day to have a decadent treat or dessert. This way you aren't depriving yourself of your favorites, but you aren't damaging yourself by eating it every day. You will be surprised, however, after you have been on a healthy diet for a while, the odd affects (most of them undesirable!) these foods may have on your system, so do be careful and watch those portions!
